This test is used to screen the urine for the presence of any bacterial infection. It aids in the diagnosis of urinary tract infection (UTI). The UTI begin in the urethra and if no proper treatment is given it can spread to kidneys. The main symptoms that lead to the recommendation of this test include frequent urination, burning and irritation during urination and pain in lower back. Women are advised to give three samples for the proper identification of infectious bacterial agent while for men, one sample is enough.
