This test is used to evaluate the levels of testosterone in the body. It is the main sex hormone of man and is involved in the development of secondary sex characteristics. Low levels of this hormone is present in children, women and hypogonadal men. The deficiency of this hormone leads to infertility in men and any symptoms related to infertility or lack of sex drive can be evaluated using this test. This test is also used for the diagnosis of different congenital disorders, including Prader-Willi syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome. The production of testosterone can also be affected by damage to testes caused by viral or bacterial infection, physical trauma or injury and malignancy.
