This test is used to evaluate the presence of SS-B antibody in the blood. It aids in the diagnosis of Sjogren’s syndrome and lupus erythematosus. SS-B protein is an autoimmune antibody and attacks the normal tissues of the body, especially connective tissues. In about 90% of cases, Sjogren’s syndrome affects the lachrymal glands and salivary glands. This test is also recommended to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus as levels of SS-B antibody are elevated in these diseases. The main symptoms that lead to the recommendation of this test include dryness of mouth and eyes, dryness of vagina, thyroid disorders, muscular and joint pain, fatigue and numbness in legs and arms.
