This test is used for the diagnosis of carcinoid syndrome. A carcinoid tumor produces huge amount of serotonin usually in intestine, appendix or rectum. This test is sometimes performed along with a 24-hour urine 5-HIAA test. Carcinoid tumors are present at gastrointestinal tract, in the lungs and can also effect other organs. This test is conducted when individual shows symptoms like; diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, flushing of the face and neck, rapid heartbeat, wheezing, coughing and coughing.
