This test evaluates the level of lipoprotein (a) in the blood. This test is used to diagnose or screen people who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). The level of Lp (a) in the blood is a genetically determined and is not altered with age and lifestyle. This test is used to determine the genetic susceptibility of an individual to CVD and helps to control its development by treating other factors like low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the blood which may increase the deleterious effects of high Lp (a). This test is recommended to high risk patients including, people with premature atherosclerotic vascular disease, people with family history of coronary heart disease and people with increased levels of LDL in the blood.
LabEspy recommends Lab Testing API, Ulta Lab Tests, Save On Labs for this test.
