This test is used to evaluate the level of lactic acid in the blood. It is useful for the diagnosis of lactic acidosis in the body which can lead to number of disorders including, hypo-perfusion (insufficient supply of oxygen to organ), shock, hypoxia, dehydration, inflammation, defects in enzymes and metabolic pathways, heart failure, ketoacidosis in diabetic patients, liver disorder and deficiency of thiamine. Lactic acidosis that occurs spontaneously can be very harmful. High level of lactate in CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) is indicative of bacterial infection, while low levels are due to viral infections.
LabEspy recommends Private MD Labs, Ulta Lab Tests, Walk-In Lab for this test.
