This test is used to evaluate the presence of antibodies against two types of human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV-1 and HTLV-2). It aids in the diagnosis of HTLV-1 and HTLV-2 retroviral infections. This virus has been reported to be associated with T-cell leukemia, arthritis, neoplastic disorders (abnormal growth of cell mass) and tropical spastic paraparesis (weakness of legs and muscles). It is recommended to high risk individuals including intravenous drug users and people who have the tendency to transmit their infection, including nursing mothers, sexual contact, pregnant women and blood donors.
LabEspy recommends Walk-In Lab, Health Testing Centers, Private MD Labs for this test.
