This test is used to detect the presence of IgG antibodies against herpes simplex virus Type 2 infection. It is used to screen individuals for any kind of latent infections, especially in prenatal patient where HSV2 infection can lead to severe disease. If this test turns out to be positive without any history of disease in the patient, it will indicate that the previous infection was asymptomatic and probably was carrier of the disease. This test does not specify the site or portal of entry of the virus.
