This test is used to evaluate the abnormal functioning of pituitary gland. Conditions associated with increased or decreased growth hormone production are diagnosed through the level of growth hormone in the blood. Increase in growth hormone leads to gigantisms and acromegaly, whereas, deficiency in the production of this hormone causes short stature, retarded growth, delay in bone development and delayed puberty. Other symptoms that are associated with this test include, fatigue, low bone density, muscle weakness and high cholesterol.
