This test is used for the semi-quantitative determination of level of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) in human serum. GAD is an enzyme produced by the pancreatic islet cells. Research says that the patients with insulin-dependent diabetes usually have GAD. The measurements from this test are helpful for the physician in diagnosis of diabetes (mostly type 1 diabetes). This measurement also aids in distinguishing between insulin-dependent and non-insulin-dependent patients.
LabEspy recommends Ulta Lab Tests, Direct Labs, Walk-In Lab for this test.
