This test is used to evaluate the level of erythropoietin (EPO) in the blood. This glycoprotein control the production of RBCs in the blood. It is useful for the diagnosis of polycythemia and anemia. Elevated level of EPO can cause polycythemia and can lead to thrombosis and also associated with different kind of tumors. Low level of EPO lead to anemia and disorder of liver and kidney. The symptoms that lead to the recommendation of this test include, fatigue, anemia and kidney disorders.
