This test is used to evaluate the function of blood coagulation factors by determining the level of D-dimer in blood (cross linked D-domains of fibrin protein). The detection of D-dimers in the blood is an indicator of positive coagulation function. The activation of coagulation factors causes breakdown of fibrinogen into fibrin which form clot. Elevated D-dimer levels have been observed in many diseases and conditions with increased coagulation activation like thromboembolic disease, DIC, acute aortic dissection, myocardial infarction, malignant diseases, obstetrical complications, third trimester of pregnancy, surgery, or polytrauma.
LabEspy recommends Walk-In Lab, Lab Testing API, Ulta Lab Tests for this test.
