This test is used to screen an individual for the presence of DNA of hepatitis B virus. It aids in the diagnosis of chronic or acute HBV infection. This test is very sensitive as compared to the serological tests used for the screening and diagnosis of HBV. It can detect acute HBV infection at a very early stage and is also recommended for monitoring of progression of disease and patient’s response to HBV therapy. The symptoms that lead to the recommendation of this test include loss of appetite, dark colored urine, fatigue, mild fever, headache and jaundice.
