This test is used to monitor the effects of cancer therapy in patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It is used in combination with other tests to evaluate the complete status of function of pancreas. This test is also used to monitor people with cancer of bile duct. The level of this cancer antigen in the blood is proportional to the progression of these cancers, thus it is used to determine the stage of the disease. Some early and non-specific symptoms of pancreatic cancer are, weight loss, loss of appetite, jaundice, nausea and pain in abdomen.
