This is a test for the diagnosis of ovarian cancer as CA-125 is a marker of cancer. The presence of this antigen in the blood is indicative of novel and recurrent cancer. The test is generally carried out by taking samples after regular intervals of days over a period of few months. This gives complete picture of the increase and decrease in the concentration of tumor marker. People with inherited mutation in BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes are at high risk of developing ovarian cancer and are recommended to take this test as part of routine screening procedure. There are certain other factors which are considered as risk in which this test is recommended, they include age, infertility, family history, obesity and abnormal weight gain.
