This test is used to screen the presence of Helicobacter pylori infection. It aids in the diagnosis of chronic and acute infection of H. pylori. High levels of IgA are indicative of early infection while IgG is important for monitoring the effectiveness of treatment. Detection of IgM antibodies along with these two can lead to proper diagnosis of degree of infection. The symptoms that lead to the recommendation of this test include duodenal or gastric ulcers, burning pain and inflammation in gastric tract, indigestion and loss of appetite.
