This is used to check isoforms of ALP enzyme. It is used to analyze the function and disorders related to liver, bone and bowel. Liver isoenzymes are elevated when total ALP levels increases. Liver ALP get high in blood in the start of liver disease before other abnormalities started to appear. Signs leading towards ALP are hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver, drug-induced liver disease, obstruction of biliary flow by carcinoma at the head of the pancreas, bile duct stricture, primary biliary cirrhosis, and metastatic carcinoma of the liver. Bone isoenzymes are increases due to osteoblastic activity which normally get high in growing children and adults. This test is also used to detect if cancer had spread to bones or other bone disorders (Paget’s disease).
