This test is used to screen the blood for the presence of testicular tumor marker a-Fetoprotein (AFP). This test is used to diagnose nonseminomatous testicular cancer and is usually recommended in combination with serum hCG test. This test is also used for monitoring the effectiveness of cancer therapy and its absence is an indicator of tumor clearance from the body. This test is usually carried out by serial sampling of serum over a period of time and determine the rate of nonseminomatous testicular tumor progression.
